Our absolute grading system is based on letter grades and GPAs.

Grades are assigned based on performance in assessments, exams, assignments, and participation, as outlined in the course syllabus.

In Relative Grading students' grades are determined in comparison to their peers' performance, rather than a fixed percentage scale in Absolute Grading.

GPA is calculated by dividing the total grade points earned by the total credit hours attempted. Each grade has a corresponding grade point (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0).

Yes, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to be eligible for graduation.

The grading scale typically translates as follows: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. Specifics may vary by course and program.

Program objectives are broad statements that describe the expected achievements of graduates within a few years of completing the program.

Program objectives are developed with input from faculty, industry professionals, and academic standards, ensuring they align with the needs of the profession and community.

Program outcomes are specific, measurable statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time they graduate.

Program outcomes are assessed through various methods including exams, projects, presentations, and other assignments that demonstrate students' knowledge and skills.

Program objectives and outcomes are typically listed on the program’s webpage, prospectus, and in the syllabi for individual courses.

A credit hour is a unit of measure that represents one hour of classroom instruction and two hours of out-of-class work per week over a semester.

The number of credit hours required for graduation varies by program. Typically, an undergraduate degree requires around 120-144 credit hours.

Credit hours are assigned based on the amount of instructional time and the expected out-of-class workload for the course.

Yes, students can take more or fewer credit hours per semester, but they should consult with their academic advisor to ensure they stay on track for graduation.

The maximum number of credit hours a student can take in a semester is typically around 18-21, but this can vary by institution and program.

Outcomes-based education is an educational approach that focuses on achieving specific outcomes in terms of student learning and performance.

Unlike traditional education methods that focus on teaching inputs (e.g., curriculum, instruction), OBE emphasizes the achievement of learning outcomes and student performance

Outcomes in OBE are clearly defined, measurable goals that students are expected to achieve by the end of a course or program.

Student performance is measured through various assessment tools, including exams, projects, presentations, and practical tasks that demonstrate the achievement of the defined outcomes.

OBE ensures that all students achieve a minimum level of competency and skills, promotes transparency in learning objectives, and aligns education with industry and societal needs.

Faculty play a key role in designing curriculum, defining outcomes, creating assessments, and continuously improving teaching methods based on assessment data.

Resources include academic advising, tutoring services, learning centers, and access to course materials and learning management systems

Employers often view graduates from OBE programs favorably, as these graduates have demonstrated specific skills and competencies that are relevant to the workforce.

Progress can be tracked through regular assessments, feedback from instructors, and tools provided in the learning management system.

Students may be required to participate in continuous assessment activities, complete capstone projects, or engage in practical experiences to demonstrate their competencies.

A rubric is a tool that outlines the criteria for evaluating a student's performance on an assignment or task, detailing specific expectations and the levels of achievement for each criterion.

A typical rubric includes the following components: criteria (the aspects of performance being assessed), levels of performance (such as excellent, good, fair, poor), and descriptors (specific descriptions of what each level of performance looks like for each criterion).

Rubrics are used to provide a detailed and structured way to evaluate students' work. Instructors assess each criterion separately, assign a level of performance, and then use the rubric to calculate a final grade.

Rubrics offer several benefits, including clear communication of expectations to students, consistent and objective grading, detailed feedback on strengths and areas for improvement, and a structured framework for self-assessment and peer review.

Yes, students can use rubrics to self-assess their work before submitting it, helping them understand the expectations and identify areas where they may need to improve.

Rubrics are developed by identifying the key criteria for an assignment, defining the levels of performance for each criterion, and creating detailed descriptors that differentiate between each level.

Rubrics can be tailored to specific assignments or tasks, but there are also generic rubrics that can be applied to a variety of assignments within a particular subject or skill area.

Rubrics enhance learning by providing clear guidelines and expectations, promoting self-regulation and reflection, and helping students understand what high-quality work looks like.

Examples of rubrics can be found in educational resources, textbooks, academic websites, and through your institution's teaching and learning center.

Yes, rubrics can be adapted for group projects by including criteria that assess both individual contributions and group collaboration and outcomes.
